This isn't talked about enough.

Akutagawa here is adamant that evil must pay the price for its deeds. Kenji agrees with him, even recognizing the way he downplayed the harm done, because to Akutagawa, he was basically disregarding all of their hard work as something so easy to let go of. That it was as replaceable as a broken cup.

To Kenji, he may be used to it, so it really doesn't matter much, in the sense where they could just replant it, and just be glad that it wasn't all ruined. But to Akutagawa, it isn't everyday that he works so hard on something only to have it destroyed by a selfish someone you can exact revenge on. Someone who deserves the wrath and pain of ruining the genuine hard work and heart put into the rice paddies. Kenji recognizes and apologizes because he understands. And that's just so mature of him.

Not to mention that he agrees with Akutagawa's perspective and resentment to an extent, the 'may' showing that there are some things he doesn't agree with. He knows what it's like–and is completely fine with having to–to fight foes when talking things out doesn't work, because that's the only way they're going to listen and respect what he's trying to say to them. He's instilled fear and guilt into the hearts of those who have wronged him, and those who didn't alike, using it to his advantage. It's how he protects his loved ones from harm, so he sees no harm in embracing it.

The key difference here is that despite it all, he continues to bear no ill will towards any of his foes, with the circumstances taken into consideration. He'll probably never go as far as murder unless he was paying them back in like to what they did to someone he cared for. ‘Killing people is bad’, he did say, yes, but not everyone abides by their ideals under the heavy influence of grief and anger.

Especially not Kenji.

He would resort to murder in a fit of rage, and I really don't know how he'd feel about his actions after it passes. He's as kind as a saint in his own way, but he keeps a thick red line painted at hurting his friends.

So yes, he does believe retribution is important for those who wrong others, just how it's done depends on the severity to him; it's not all worth murder.

It'd take a long period of time, months upon months, before Akutagawa eventually widens his tunnel view vision. It'd be stupid to try to rush him instead of taking things at a slower pace, teaching him life lessons here and there when it called for it until things came full circle to form a slightly broader outlook, increasing his problem solving steps and not jumping to murder and threats at the slightest inconvenience.

I hate being a person who loves bugs, I can't say anything without the person I'm talking to reacting with disgust. Today I had to literally beg a coworker for the life of a spider, and then after I put it in a nook outside she thought it'd be funny to show me a video she took of her killing one. Like idk man. Birds scare the shit out of me but I still get why people love them. They come in pretty colors and they sound nice and they're interesting to observe. I don't understand why people don't feel the same about bugs. The rich amber color of a cockroach, the iridescent glow of a fly, the intricate hydraulics that power their little legs, the chirp of a beetle, the art of the spider's web... It's all so beautiful. Why is it the habit of so many to destroy?

Still working on getting everything set up how I like it on Palamedes (the new laptop) and was reminded of my favorite browser extensions everyone should know about -- Unpaywall and Library Extension

Unpaywall automatically searches a database of open-access sources to let you know if an academic article you're looking at is available anywhere for free. (And yes, I know there are other ways of getting your hands on them if there aren't open-access options, but it's an easy, convenient first step in the search!)

Library Extension is kind of similar, except it's an extension that tells you if your local library (or its Hoopla catalogue, or various online sources like Open Library) has a book available in a little box that shows up if you're looking at titles on Amazon, Goodreads, or their less evil counterparts -- Bookshop and Storygraph, respectively. It even has a button that automatically takes you to the page to request it as a hold from the library instead, which I know is amazing for my "I'll look that up later [does not look that up later]" ADHD brain.

I cannot recommend these extensions enough, and the ease and convenience of both of them have definitely helped me read more academics articles and books than I would have otherwise. Definitely check them out if you're not already using them!

Just noticed something I thought was very interesting:

Victim depicts the Cursor as being giant in comparison to himself

When in reality this just wasn't true.

Victim's fear and trauma has caused him to re-imagine the Cursor into a much bigger monster than it ever was, something huge and horrible and capable of crushing him like a bug. A scale and strength fitting of how terrifying Victim considers it to be.

As opposed to the little thing barely bigger than his own head.

Except, those drawings look a little familiar...

This is literally Victim's worst nightmares made real.

Something tells me things aren't going to go very well, if the Cursor does end up being summoned into Rocket Corp...

I really wish we could get a scene where Percy reaches his breaking point and uses all his abilities at once. I want to see a proper earthquake. I want to see what he can do with his control over storms. Like, I want to see him move mountains - literally move mountains - to take care of business. Maybe the world is about to end. Maybe Annabeth is in danger. Maybe Estelle is in danger. Maybe his own children are in danger. There are several things that could make him so angry and scared that his limits shatter.

Children of Poseidon, even demigods, are often referred to as monsters. Because like the sea, they are brutal and merciless. And Poseidon has implied that Percy has surpassed every hero he’s ever seen, even hercules, when it comes to his capabilities and determination. Leo and Hazel have said you can physically feel and see his power, even if he’s not doing anything. I want to see Percy really tap into the godly part of him. I want him to send his enemies running for their mommies. And I want to read it from someone else’s point of view. Someone who can describe what it really looks and feels like.

Becasue imagine the most frightening, intimidating man you’ve even seen - his wolffish glare, embodied by his sharp features, frightening enough to paralyze you in fear - flying straight towards you on an angry black pegasus. Hundreds of other angry pegasi fan out on either side of him, looking like something out of a mythical nightmare. Then a dark, gigantic wave spanning several miles, taller than mountains, rises behind him. It’s towering over the valleys and hills, casting a shadow over the land, and coming right towards you, ready to demolish and drown every semblance of your existence. Then all of a sudden the entire sky is dark and the air is cold, and the storm hits you with unforgiving force. The brutal winds and sharp cold rain is so strong that you can barely stand. The booming cracks of thunder make your ears ring, and the blinding bolts of lightning light up the sky like electricity is at war with itself. And now… now the entire earth is shaking. The ground is rumbling beneath you so violently that every part of your body is painfully trembling, your teeth chattering and eyes bouncing. The earth around you is splitting into wide chasms, boulders tumbling and tress falling. Oh also a fucking volcano just blew up. It’s suddenly hard to breath as rock and dirt rain down on you, and you’re about to be burned and buried by miles worth of molten ash. Pompeii part 2, brought to you by Perseus Jackson.

Only this is 10x worse, because every natural element is out for your complete and utter destruction.

Because Percy controls all of that. And if he hits his breaking point, there’s no telling what he could do if he set his mind to it.

A friend of mine sent me your latest post and I couldn't stop thinking about how perfectly Vasco would fit into the role of a coat of arms supporter. It got to the point that I just sat down and made a mock-up of the idea; turns out actually, both of them do a great job at it, together. massive fan of 'watch and learn' Wild. hes eaten a whole bird (feathers and all) because he saw a fox do it. he catches fish like a grizzly bear. he fights like the monsters. he can read most animal body language and almost perfectly mimic wolf howls fox barks deer yips etc. he probably goes uphill on all fours. the first part of his journey was when he had the most to learn and he only had the wilds to learn it from and hylia it means so much to me
